| Snellville Snellville´s convenient location, approximately 18 miles east of Atlanta and 45 miles west of Athens at the intersection of U.S. Highway 78 and Georgia Highway 124, has allowed it to prosper and become one of Gwinnett County´s fastest growing cities for the past thirty years. Excellent schools, shopping and dining intermingled with tranquil walking trails and parks make Snellville a wonderful place to call home. Snellville is probably best described by the city motto: "Everybody's Somebody in Snellville" The city is named after Thomas Snell who was only 17 years old when he arrived from England in 1874. He was living in the small settlement of New London near Stone Mountain, when a friend from England arrived. The two of them built a small wood frame building and started a business called, "Snell and Sawyer´s Store". Within a few years the business was prospering and catering to customers from the nearby towns of Lawrenceville and Loganville. New London began to be called Snellville, probably because the store referred to "Snellville" in their advertising. Like most of the metro Atlanta area Snellville has experienced tremendous growth and expansion. Numerous communities featuring swim-tennis facilities and some in a golf country club setting are available. Brookwood High School |
